According to Bloomberg, Electronic Arts has canceled the development of an unannounced Apex Legends story game.
According to reports published by Bloomberg via Jason Schreier, development of a single-player story game set in the Apex Legends/Titanfall universe by Electronic Arts has been canceled.
More details about the unannounced game aren’t available at this time, but Schreier says the project, codenamed TFL or Titanfall Legends, has been in development at Respawn Studios; A first-person shooter in the shared universe of the popular game Titanfall and Apex Legends.
Schreier has also confirmed that this game is apparently the secret project Mohammad Alavi, is an experienced and Iranian director of Respawn Studio, which started its construction in 2021. Alavi is known as one of the main designers of the Titanfall series and one of the long-time producers of popular games such as the Modern Warfare series from the Call of Duty series. Designing and directing the famous stages Crew Expendable, All Ghillied Up and No Russian from the Modern Warfare series are also among other achievements of Alavi’s professional career.
At the beginning of last year, Alavi left this studio for an unknown purpose after about 10 years of working in Respawn. After Alavi left, the development process of this single-player game continued until last week, and now apparently Electronic Arts has stopped the development process of this project altogether. Also, Bloomberg’s anonymous sources say that around 50 members of the game’s developers have already lost their jobs. Of course, EA has assured these game makers that, as far as possible, new positions will be created for some of them in other parts of the Respawn studio and the collection of Electronic Arts global studios.
In addition to canceling the development of this new game from the Titanfall series, yesterday Electronic Arts announced the cancellation of the development of the mobile version of Apex Legends, Battlefield Mobile and the closure of its developer studio, Industrial Toys, after its relatively disappointing financial report for the last quarter.
Fans of the Titanfall shooter series have been waiting for the release of a new game from this series for years. Titanfall 2 is the latest version of this series, which met with critical acclaim and warm response from gamers when it was released in 2016. The third part of this series, which started its development in 2016, was changed to the Apex Legends battle royale game at some stage of development, which was finally made available to fans in 2019. Apex Legends is considered to be one of the most successful and popular Electronic Arts games in recent years, and it has earned about two billion dollars for the company and Respawn Studio so far.
Despite the cancellation of the Apex Legends single-player game, the development of another story shooter Respawn, which is supposed to take place in the Star Wars universe, is still going on. He has written several games from the Medal of Honor series and produced games such as the original versions of Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Wars: Battlefront II.
