The integrated graphics of Intel’s new generation processors, called Meteor Lake, with their excellent graphics processing power, will eliminate the need for a separate GPU for low-end and economical laptops.
In its latest video, the YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead talked about an internal presentation of AMD from the fourth quarter of 2022; A presentation that compares the integrated graphics performance of the company’s latest processors with Nvidia’s discrete graphics cards. These slides also mention the iGPU of Intel’s Meteor Lake processors, which, with the Xe-LPG architecture, provide far better performance than what we have seen from this class of products.
These slides show that the AMD Radeon 780M graphics processor used in the company’s Phoenix APU with 12 RDNA 3 processing units and 45W power consumption has a higher power than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card at 50W power. The Strix Point APU is also shown here to perform faster than the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 at 35W.
Here we see that the Meteor Lake processors with their integrated graphics lag behind the GPU Phoenix RDNA 3 are placed, but They will appear at the NVIDIA GTX 1650 Ti to RTX 3050 level and will showcase a new concept of CPU integrated graphics. Of course, these GPUs will be introduced in two different configurations, one of which is 64 EU units Or MTL GT2 and another with a design of 128 units EU or MTL GT3 will be used.
Also, these chips have the possibility of enhanced support They will provide DirectX 12 Ultimate and XeSS, which is currently only possible on Alchemist series products. Also, Intel will use the Adamantine L4 cache memory technology in this family, which will generally lead to the enhancement of GPU performance.
Of course, if this information is true, we still have to wait for the gaming benchmark tests of these GPUs to measure their performance in real daily use. Because this comparison is based on the 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark and simulation tools are not the best way to measure gaming power. In any case, we have to wait until the last quarter of 2023 and the release of these chips.
