In his recent interview, the CEO of Electronic Arts stated that he is indifferent to Microsoft’s success in buying Activision Blizzard.
During the latest EA financial report meeting, the company’s CEO was asked about the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft and the impact of this transaction on the game industry. Next, Andrew Wilson explained in response to this question:
“This is a question I get asked a lot and I’m almost never allowed to give a straight answer. What I’m trying to say is that I don’t know what’s going to happen to the Activision-Microsoft deal. Either way, we’ll still be Microsoft’s biggest partner and I think we’re the number one publisher on their platform; So whether this deal goes through or not, it doesn’t really matter to us. We believe that regardless of whether this deal goes through or not, we can continue to anticipate, lead the future of the entertainment industry and compete in this market with our extensive network scale, IPs and talent.”
Wilson went on to explain that more future mergers are inevitable for the gaming industry, and he wants EA to be well-positioned if a partner or buyer is found. A added about this:
“The question is, will there be more acquisitions in the long run?” Will the merger of entertainment companies take place on a wider scale? If I were to predict the future in the long term, I would say that it is almost certain. I like that we have a scale where we can appear powerful in that situation. We have tremendous assets in terms of the future of entertainment, and as things stand today, I think we’re indifferent as to whether Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through or not.
We believe we have a great strategy and incredible opportunities will be in front of us in the future; Therefore, whether this deal is done or not, we will continue to be the number one publisher on the Xbox platform.”
Previously, during the presentation of its financial performance, EA company mentioned successful results, including FIFA 23 becoming the most successful version in the history of the series and the very strong start of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
