Riot Games confirmed that hackers have stolen the source codes of League of Legends and Teamfight.
Riot Games announced that it has recently been the target of a cyber attack in which hackers managed to obtain the source codes of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. The studio further confirmed that the hackers also stole data from an old anti-cheat platform.
The attack, which took place last week, was confirmed after an analysis by Riot over the weekend. The studio announced that it had received a ransom email from the hackers and told them in response that it would not make any payments. Riot went on to assure players that no data or personal information of gamers was compromised in this attack.
According to the official description provided, the source code stolen by the hackers contains a number of new experimental features that were designed for the games. These new features, which were supposed to be new game modes and other changes, were in the prototype stage. Riot even confirmed that a final decision had not yet been made to add them to the game.
“Our security teams and internationally recognized external consultants continue to assess the attack and clean up our systems,” Riot explained on Twitter. We have also notified the law enforcement agencies and are actively working with them to identify this attack and its hacker group.”
