LHS 475 b, Earth-sized exoplanet

One of James Webb’s scientific goals is to investigate life in discovered exoplanets.

What do we see in today’s NASA image?

If you could stand on the exoplanet LHS 475 b, what would you see? This fictional image of the planet was simulated by an Earth-based artificial intelligence (AI) machine. The existence of this exoplanet has been confirmed in data obtained from the TESS satellite, located in Earth’s orbit, and was confirmed and investigated by the James Webb Space Telescope this year.

What we do know for sure is that LHS 475 b has a similar mass to Earth and is orbiting a small, red star 40 light-years away. This imaginary image shows a rugged Earth-like landscape filled with molten lava, with a central red star rising in the distance.

In James Webb’s data, there is still no indication of an atmosphere in LHS 475 b. One of James Webb’s scientific goals is to investigate life in discovered exoplanets.
