The Milky Way over the Egyptian desert

For decades, amateur astronomers have dreamed of capturing such an image.

What do we see in today’s NASA image?

White Desert National Park located in the Western Desert of Egypt is an amazing place for photography. This desert has countless chalk structures that have been turned into surreal structures by the sand winds. On a clear, moonless night, the Egyptian desert sky is very dark, and brighter areas such as the central band of the Milky Way are revealed with impressive color and detail.

In the foreground of the picture, you can see a person wearing the traditional Bedouin jalabiya dress. This person asked an experienced astrophotographer to spend three weeks together in the desert to capture a dream image.

This image is a combination of several photos, all of which were taken with the same camera and from the same location. This amazing image is the result of three days of shooting in mid-March.
