Very slow growth of fixed internet

The report of the statistical indicators of the communication and information technology sector in the autumn period of 1401 shows the very slow growth of fixed internet in the country; An issue that could not proceed according to the government’s expectations in 1401. At the unveiling ceremony of Irancell’s projects, the Minister of Communications announced that the growth of fixed internet has progressed slowly, contrary to their expectations, and they expect this problem to be compensated for next year. In the regulatory report, other details such as the amount of internet usage, which was always announced, were not announced. In the previous reports of the regulator, which reflected spring and summer statistics, an increase in data consumption was seen, but due to the current restrictions on the Internet, it can be assumed that this increasing trend has been stopped.

The report of the third quarter of 1401, published by the regulator, indicates that the country’s fixed internet has faced a slow growth in terms of the number of subscribers. The lack of development of the fixed internet network as well as the more reasonable price of the mobile internet, compared to the type of quality offered, seem to be common reasons for the decline. This slow growth is a continuation of the fall that occurred in the summer and the fixed internet situation is not very good. It should be mentioned that this summer the number of fixed internet subscribers reached 10,979,000 with a penetration rate of 12.96%, and now this number has reached a little more than 11 million.

The growth of mobile internet

Mobile Internet subscribers have also grown, and from last year to this year, nearly 11 million new subscribers have been added to the mobile network. The number of mobile broadband subscribers is now 102 million and 373 thousand people, and the penetration rate of mobile internet has reached more than 120%; While the fixed internet penetration rate is slightly higher than 13%. The number of landline subscribers also grew by only 0.12% compared to the fall of last year; This number has increased from 29 million 306 thousand 782 subscribers to 29 million 342 thousand 60 subscribers in the landline sector.

According to this report, while the number of mobile broadband subscribers has grown by 11.46% in the fall of this year compared to the fall of last year (1400), only 1.70% growth can be seen in the fixed broadband subscriber segment compared to the fall of 1400.

According to the report published by the regulator, 77% of fixed broadband subscribers use the outdated ADSL technology, and only 17% of fixed broadband subscribers are optical fiber customers.

Speed of users

In addition, this report says that the highest speed that fixed internet users receive in the country is between 2 and 10 Mbps and the number of these users is slightly less than 4 million. Of course, 3 million users also have access to speeds of 10 to 20 Mbps, and users who are equipped with higher speeds make up a total population of 1.5 million people.

Fixed internet market

Almost half of the fixed internet market share is in the hands of Iran Telecommunication Company and the remaining 17 FCP companies have only 30% of this market. The share of FWA operators (Irancell, Mebinnet, Zitel and Hiweb) has been announced as 16%.

Market share of operators

The market share of mobile broadband subscribers is also in the first place along with the first with 53% and after that Irancell has the second place in this market with 43%. Rightel has only a 4% share of this market. From there, in the amount of data consumption, Irancell’s share is 53% and the first companion has 40% of the market. Rightel’s share also reaches 7%.

Postal services and satellite internet

During this period, more than 180 million postal items have been sent, and nearly 175 million of them have been successfully distributed. It is also emphasized in this report that there are 8,881 government service counter offices across the country and 2,539 postal units are also active in Iran.

It goes without saying that the number of satellite subscriber terminals in the country is currently 7366 and 7 companies are active in this field. In general, more than 323 MHz of bandwidth is provided by these companies.
